About the Artist
Susan Mézquita Gutiérrez is an interdisciplinary artist working across visual art, spatial practices, and cultural mediation. Her work combines artistic research with participatory formats, creating dialogues between the Caribbean and Europe. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she is based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.
Her background spans visual arts, architecture, and cultural education. She studied at the National School of Visual Arts and the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, and holds a Master’s degree in Conservation of Monuments and Cultural Heritage from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña. She later completed a Master’s degree in Architecture, Art, and Ephemeral Space at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona), as well as further studies in cultural mediation and arts education at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB).
She has exhibited widely in the Caribbean and Europe and is member of Visarte, the Swiss Professional Association of Visual Artists. She has received several distinctions, including the Prize at the XXX National Biennial of Visual Arts at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo (2023). That same year, she was selected for PRESSURE, a printmaking project supported by the city of Biel/Bienne, the canton of Bern and city of Bern. Her work is held in private collections as well as in the Museum of Modern Art and the Bellapart Museum in Santo Domingo.
